Splitsville now. But jab they met, it was magic!
Buzz of a spat between Gautami and Shruti Haasan on the sets of Sabaash Naidu, refuses to die down
This year witnessed quite a lot of celebrity couples parting ways and the latest to join the bandwagon is Kamal Haasan and his partner Gautami, who were living together for 13 years. On her Twitter page, she wrote and shared a blog post titled 'life and decisions', which is about her reasons for the split from Ulaganayagan.
While this news has come as a shock to many, it's not clearly stated why she made this decision. "This is…perhaps one of the most difficult decisions any woman will ever have to make but it is a necessary one for me. For I am a mother first and foremost and I have a responsibility to my child to be the best mother that I can be. And to do that, it is essential that I am at peace within myself…" read her post. Speaking to a Tamil news channel, Gautami said that the decision was a process taken over time. "Things change with time. If it doesn't work out, you have to accept it," she added.
The couple was seen together on screen in Papanasam, which was released last year, where Gautami made her acting comeback in Tamil after 19 years. The duo has had some trying times in their relationship. Gautami battled cancer sometime ago. She was married for barely a year to Sandeep Bhatia, whom she divorced in 1999 and both her parents died within a couple of years. Since then, she has been a single mother taking care of her daughter Subbulakshmi.
Kamal divorced his former wife, Sarika, in 2004. It's being said that he went back to his old friend, with whom he shared screen space during the late 1980s and 90s in films like Thevar Magan (1992), Apoorva Sagodharargal (1989), Nammavar (1994), Kuruthipunal (1995) and so on.
In 2005, they decided to move in together, along with their respective children from previous marriages. In many events, they have openly stated that they don't believe in the institution of marriage, and have been candid about their live-in relationship.
Gautami has been designing costumes for all his movies after Vani Ganapathi and Sarika. In fact, she's the costume designer for his upcoming trilingual, Sabaash Naidu. There was also a buzz in August that all wasn't well between Shruti Haasan and Gautami. It was said that Shruti didn't like the costumes that were designed for the film. In fact, rumours also had it that after they had a long, nasty fight, a day's shooting was called off. However, Shruti had later issued a statement that they bond well and that the issue had been sorted professionally.
On the other hand, in a couple of interviews, when Shruti was asked if she had spoken to Gautami post the spat, reportedly, she replied saying she was busy with shooting schedules and had time for her father, who had fractured his leg in July, Akshara and friends. Her response follows, "My father is one of the most important people in my universe and if someone's important to him, I respect that person," she had said. Incidentally, Gautami has now unfollowed Shruti on Twitter but continues to follow Kamal.
